Keith and Allison Nairn (SVRA committee members) visited the Thomsons site on 17/6/24 and recorded the following notes.
Ross Orchard, the Thompsons site manager, took us on a tour of the site and we observed that installation of the bund has begun at the far end of the site near to the old railway platform and is on going. During our visit Ross advised us on the steps they are continuing to take to help to reduce noise and dust issues.
In relation to the material they are storing temporarily for Bentleys, he advised that 100,000 ton will be returned to Bentley but could not give a date on when this will be. He advised they are processing the material they are storing for Bentleys and removing the file fertile components. This fertile material is to be used on the bund and the bund is to be seeded with trees etc and this fertile material will help.
The new wash building will hopefully be completed by end August /start of September. This has been delayed due to weather and supply issues. This building will have 60ml insulation and sheeting to help to suppress the noise.
He also advised that the noisiest operations on the site are currently carried out at the farthest point of the site from the houses.
They are continuing to concrete the access roads around the site to cut down the dust
Ross advised that recently the heaps been bigger than normal but is still within the limits allowed.
The Environment Agency visited the site unannounced on 02/05/24 and had access to the full site. They monitor such issues as noise, dust and processes of work. A compliance report is then produced and no issues were found. Ross advised this was the third time the Environment Agency had visited the site this year, with no issues or concerns found on each visit.
Ross advised the site, along with the main road, gets swept at least 6 times a day. The path between the Thompson site and the entrance to the SITA site gets swept 3 times a week.
They also employ an independent company to monitor sound levels.
